Daniel has been teaching trumpet and improvisation for the past ten years. He has been teaching brass lessons at Milton High School for the past five years and is now teaching trumpet at Lexington High School as well. Daniel also teaches trumpet privately in Newton and Brookline, and is available to travel to your home if you live in that area. He has performed master classes and has been a guest teacher at University of Denver and New England Conservatory.
Daniel's teaching method addresses the fundamentals of trumpet playing (sound, articulation, lip flexibility, breathing), reading and sight reading skills (classical, popular, and jazz) in a way that emphasizes making music in a creative and individually expressive way. Daniel also teaches jazz improvisation and ear training.
In addition, Daniel has dedicated much of the last four years to studying the Alexander Technique (see Alexander Technique section) and is now qualified to teach it professionally! The Alexander Technique teaches a way to organize and align the body to make it work most efficiently for whatever task is at hand. As a brass player the Alexander Technique will improve ease of breath, increase breath capacity, eliminate excess tension, improve tone quality, range and endurance while playing the instrument. Although it is not necessary for Daniel's students to study the Alexander Technique, their playing will most certainly benefit from his first hand knowledge of the subject.
Although most of Daniel's students are currently in middle and high school, he is open to teaching any age and has taught students ranging in ages from 4 to 70. Daniel's past students are currently attending some of the top music conservatories in the country.
